CAPA stands for Consolidated Application for Pharmacy Administration. It is the ultimate solution to the future of community pharmacy. CAPA is a hi-tech IT system that has been designed to give pharmacists the opportunity to carry out new extended roles and to then perform these roles to high standards of care, efficiency, ease and versatility. CAPA has been built on a foundation of decision support and clinical governance and looks to put the "Vision of Pharmacy" into a working reality.

CAPA encompasses every part of pharmacy practice. It not only integrates every application within pharmacy such as Sales, Dispensing, Medicines Management, Care Home services and Clinical Review, but also integrates with the NHS spine and communicates with GP systems using standard terminology such as READ codes. CAPA uses real-time technology with broadband secure networking to enable its features which also include improved communications allowing pharmacies to talk to each other using Voice Over IP, video conferencing and instant messaging. CAPA is future proof, constructed on a back bone that will allow ETP, mobile communication and beyond. A Patent is currently pending, as there are a number of technical advances and innovations used within CAPA which enable many of its unique features.

Ultimately, CAPA allows a pharmacy to function without the physical presence of a pharmacist without compromising patient safety in the sale and supply of medicines. Thereby, allowing pharmacists to leave their premises to carry out new roles, review patients or discuss issues with other healthcare professionals. This element of the functionality, whilst complete, remains under consultation with DoH and RPSGB, and is not being made available commercially.
